Lalouda Artist Residency Program 2024/2025

Location: Gerolimenas, Greece
When: December 1, 2024 – March 15, 2025
Duration: 2 weeks to 3 months - flexible

Nestled in the picturesque seaside village of Gerolimenas on Greece’s Mani Peninsula, the Lalouda Artist Residency is designed to support artists across all disciplines in cultivating their creativity within a tranquil, inspiring environment. This unique residency invites artists seeking to dive deeply into their practice, offering a private, open-plan house with breathtaking views of both the sea and mountains. With fully covered utilities, reliable Wi-Fi, and access to support and mentorship, residents can focus entirely on their creative journey.

Program Goals and Aims: The Lalouda Artist Residency aims to provide a safe, nurturing space for artists to grow, experiment, and explore new ideas away from the pressures of daily life. It offers an immersive experience where artists can engage with their surroundings and deepen their connection to their work, all while living in one of Greece’s most serene coastal settings. In addition, residents have the opportunity to connect with the local community through cultural exchange and creative interaction, promoting understanding and sharing of ideas between artist and community.

Community Engagement and Cultural Exchange: Artists are encouraged to learn about the local dialect, traditions, and rich heritage of the Mani Peninsula. By engaging with Gerolimenas’ community—whether through workshops, exhibitions, or informal discussions—residents can experience a fulfilling exchange, gaining insight into Greek culture while sharing their own work and perspective. This cultural immersion offers artists the chance to create work that resonates with the unique landscape and heritage of Gerolimenas and to spread awareness of this special place through their artistic practice and social media.

Final Project Showcase: A key component of the Lalouda Residency is the final showcase, where each artist presents a completed work or project inspired by their time in Gerolimenas. This can take the form of an exhibition, open studio event, performance, or community presentation. The final showcase offers the local community and a broader audience a glimpse into the artist’s journey, creating a shared experience that bridges cultures and connects people through art.

Residency Details and Practical Information: The Lalouda house, which can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people, is available at a significantly reduced cost for residency, making it an affordable option for artists at any stage of their career. Artists are responsible for their own meals and transport to and from Gerolimenas, but families or partners are welcome to join the residency upon request. This retreat offers the time, space, and inspiration needed to delve into creative exploration and produce work that may define the next stage of an artist’s journey.
